The BHF is here to Beat Heartbreak Forever. We are working towards a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases.
By 2030, we want to see advances across the spectrum of heart and circulatory diseases; we want to prevent these conditions from developing and we want those with existing conditions to have better, longer lives.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the biggest funder of heart and circulatory research in the UK today, providing around £100 million to research every year. This money saves countless lives by helping scientists discover the causes and best treatments for a host of conditions, as well as improving surgical technology.
Take babies born with congenital heart conditions. In the 1950s, around eight out of ten babies with a complex congenital heart condition died before their first birthday. Today, aided by BHF-funded advances, eight out of 10 babies with congenital heart disease grow up to be adults.
“We fund scientists at more than 50 research locations, across about a thousand projects. Any one of these at any time could be something that’s about to change someone’s life,” says the BHF’s Fiona Riley. “Cardiovascular disease kills one person every three minutes in the UK so, by leaving a gift in your will, you’re effectively helping to end this devastation.”
